Has anyone run across any online newspaper archives that contain free access to game coverage of NFL games prior to 1990?

Newspaperarchives.com is what I use. I know that there are others.

citizen & ken,
i would love to use newspaperarchive.com, but $96 per year seems somewhat salty to me (and i'm sure others). i do use a couple of their free sub-services, baseballarchive.com and collegebasketballarchive.com
they are certainly helpful.
there is a free archive to the sporting news, www.paperofrecord.com, which requires registration.

www.genealogybank.com is putting together a nice collection of historical newspapers. Right now most of the papers are from the pre-1920 era. But they do have the Dallas Morning News for the modern (great for Cowboys and Dallas Texan reserarch).
Also the New York Times is available free through most public libraries via ProQuest.

$96 a year seems kind of picey, but if you consider trying to get those papers sent in through interlibrary loan on micorfilm (Ohio charges $3 per reel) plus $.25 for every pageyou want to print out and the $3-4/gallon gas you burn driving to the local library - it's a bargain.

Newspaperarchive.com is also available for free through my library (South Central Wisconsin library system.)

The two I use are www.newspaperarchives.com and www.highbeam.com and they are either $100 or $200 per year. Cant remember which was which on the costs.

I don't know where you are located, but you might want to ask your local library if you can access newspaper databases through them; they might even allow you to access their newspaper databases via the public Internet, but you will probably have to create an account -- ask your reference librarian.
Good luck.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has all the Brown's games on their website. The Dallas Morning News is now free as well.Don't know if this is going to be help to anyone, but the NY Times online allows you free access to any article of theirs before 1923. Strongly doubt you are going to find much NFL stuff, but if you are looking for semi-pro and amateur information (the NY Athletic Club and such), or old college games, or that championship tournament that they ran indoors in 1902, it is there for you.
Thanks,
Peter

The Redskins have a few as well on the Washington Post website

I wonder if some other papers could be convinced to post what they have.

It would be nice if they could go back even further.
Are there any other papers that have games writeups online? I suppose other papers might follow suit if it were requested.

Google News Archive seems to have picked up a number of papers recently.
It would be tremendous if someday Proquest would allow their archives to be freely accessed to google.

I just joined Newspaperarchive but find it to be EXTREMELY slow trying to login.
